Power Max GX920 Irons

(as alternative to the Callaway®'s X20 Irons)

Manufacturer: Giga Golf

Model: Power Max GX920 Irons

Compares to: Callaway®'s X20 Irons

Manufacturer's Description Details: Loaded with the latest in golf technology. New thinner face maximizes ball speed resulting in more distance even at slower swing speeds. The deep notched cavity and fine center sole allows weight to be redistributed low and away from the impact area which provides a stable and forgiving ball strike. Excellent choice for the High to Mid handicap player looking for distance and forgiveness in their iron game. The best configuration for most golfers is True Temper Finest Quality Feather Flight steel shafts and VX grips.

Our Review: The Power Max GX920 Irons look sleeker than i.e. earlier Callaway models like the X-14 and X-16, and are made from polished stainless steel with a large cavity.

The irons provide moderate feedback, and it is not easy to tell where the ball made impact at the clubface. This is not really an issue as the clubs are very forgiving, and even off-center hits are surprisingly straight. This is quite likely due to the lower center of gravity which reduces the twisting of the club during the swing.

We also found that the balls flew higher than those hit with blades and rolled very little, both considered good characteristics. Distance was about the same, but control was better with the Power Max GX920. As expected the mid to high irons were the easiest to hit.

Likes:The Power Max GX920 Irons are a good choice for a beginning player, or an intermediate who only plays occasionally. They proved to be reliable, are well balanced and are easy to hit. They are very forgiving and give decent distance. Great value for money!

Dislikes: Only comes as a right hand club.

Reader's feedback and comments

I was looking to buy new clubs for over a year but could't decide. My old irons were from a garage sale many years back, and I felt I'm ready for new ones. After reading your review I decided on getting the GX920. I was worried that for this price I will get junk (like the 'golf sets' you get at Wallmart), but once my new irons arrived I was thrilled, great quality. I couldn't be happier.

I bought these to replace a set of Taylor Mades with steel shafts. I wanted to go with graphite but did not want to spend over $500.00 for a set of last year's model brand name clubs. Custom fit with graphite shafts the Power Max clubs really have helped my game. More distance with less effort. Highly recommended.

These clubs were much nicer than I expected and have improved my game tremendously. I am almost two clubs longer than with my previous set and have already shaved 5 strokes off my handicap. I definitly recommend these clubs. Very close to the name brand.
