Our Review: The first challenge when writing this review was on how to classify the new Pinemeadow Golf Hybrid Putter/Chipper, is it a 'Putter' (as per it's name) or is it a wedge (as per it's listing at the Pinmeadowgolf website? It became clearer once I got my hands on it. The long putter-like grip and the large offset clearly demand a putter grip and a pendulum swing just like one would do with a putter.
Chippers (or 'fringe-putters?) like this one are often scoffed at by experienced golfers who would use either a wedge or a mid iron for some chip-and-run from the fringe, but for a beginner this can be challenging. A chipper provides a good and very useful alternative particularly for a beginner golfer compared to playing it too short with a sand wedge or too long when using a seven iron from a short distance.
The Pinemeadow Golf Hybrid Putter with it's heavy head and 37 degrees loft (almost like an eight iron) provides for a solid shot from distances of 5 to 25 yards from the cup. In comparison, the Odyssey® Marxman X-act Chipper club head is too light, making the shots inconsistent. The rounded sole of the Pinemeadow Golf Hybrid Putter allows for good contact on uneven lies & surfaces. There are also advanages to use this club over a putter on long puts when the green is somewhat undulating - 'chipping' the ball over uneven areas of the putting surface will keep the ball straighter. The sole of this club is wide enough to not harm the green, so no worries here.
In short, with this chipper/putter it is very easy to get around the greens, and it takes some practice from further away. It is great for a beginner golfer who has trouble chipping with various irons as he/she only needs to adjust to one club.
The Pinemeadow Golf Hybrid Putter cost only $39.95 and is great value for money, especially if you compare it to the price of the Odyssey® Marxman X-act Chipper at $120.
